Restoration and Framing Nigel Stacy-Marks Ltd is experienced in all aspects of the cleaning and restoration of works of art on canvas and panel, and the art of paper conservation. We also repair and re-gild frames in gold and metal leaf and provide a bespoke framing service, using conservation quality acid-free materials for watercolours and prints. The re-lining of an impoverished canvas is often the only method of preserving an oil painting that been damaged or is suffering from paint loss. When carried out professionally this method of conservation ensures the continued life of a painting. The restoration of works of art on paper is a very specialised field, and we have access to the finest conservators who work on watercolours and original prints to the highest standards. At the end of the nineteenth century oil paintings were sometimes glazed, which has preserved them beautifully. Often all that is required is to remove the glass, revealing a picture that is as fresh as the day it was painted – always very pleasing to us. |
